gang of youths in what is understood to be a case of mistaken identity.

The beating took place around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night while the victim was riding his cycle east along Smith's Avenue, Warwick.

The man said he was confronted by a group of about ten men who were travelling in the opposite direction on motorcycles and in cars. When he stopped to allow the group to pass, one man struck him in the face with a metal baseball bat.

The man fell from his cycle and the gang continued assaulting him with bats and machetes.

The victim received four deep cuts -- all about four inches long -- on his hand, hip, shoulder, and upper arm.

He also suffered from bruising and swelling to his mouth, elbow and other parts of his body. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
