Seven injured in two road crashes
Seven people suffered minor injuries in two road accidents on Sunday.
In the first crash, a 77-year-old Southampton woman lost control of her car at the junction of King Street and Victoria Street, Pembroke, at about 1 p.m.
Her vehicle collided with two cars, one of which rolled into another car. The woman suffered a small cut to her left leg.
The driver of one of the other cars, a 49-year-old Southampton woman, complained of back and neck pain while her passengers, a 12-year-old girl and 13-year-old girl, also suffered neck pain. All were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
All four cars were damaged, particularly those driven by the 77-year-old and 49-year-old.
The second accident involved two motorcycles at the junction of North Shore Road and My Lord's Bay Road, Hamilton Parish, at about 9.40 p.m.
Police say one bike was travelling west on North Shore Road and the other was travelling along My Lord's Bay Road.
The rider of one motorcycle, a 32-year-old Hamilton Parish man, complained of pain to his collar bone while his pillion passenger, a 29-year-old Hamilton Parish woman, sustained cuts to her arms and legs.
The rider of the other motorcycle, a 26-year-old Hamilton Parish man, complained of pain to his right thumb and cuts to his left leg. Both bikes received minor damage.
In total there were 29 accidents over the weekend, 12 of which resulted in injury.
Five people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving; seven vehicles were stolen; six burglaries were reported.
Man charged with creating child porn
A man has been charged with making pornographic videos and photographs of three young girls aged under 14.
The 24-year-old from Sandys, is alleged by prosecutors to have videotaped one of the girls performing oral sex on him on two occasions.
She was eleven years old at the time.
The man denies two charges of sexually exploiting the girl and a third of making pornography relating to her.
He is charged with three additional counts of accessing child pornography in relation to photographs said by prosecutors to have been found on his laptop computer relating to the other girls.
He was not required to enter a plea when he appeared at Magistrates' Court, as the matter must be dealt with by the Supreme Court.
British Airways revises winter schedule
British Airways is to operate six flights a week throughout the winter season.
The airline offers the only direct service between Bermuda and the UK. The move marks the first time ever British Airways will operate six flights a week during winter using a B777 aircraft dedicated to the Bermuda-London route.
Said Marianne Wilcox, British Airways' manager in Bermuda: "June 16 marks our 72nd anniversary. Therefore this is really exciting news in our unique history of providing airline services to Bermuda that began in 1937 with the flying boats."
She continued: "We are hoping this winter service will help to boost both the tourism and international business effort and complement our summer daily service.
"The non-stop flights will operate every day except Mondays from November through March 2010."
Merron replaced as Overseas Territories minister
A Welsh MP has replaced Gillian Merron as the Minister for Overseas Territories following a Cabinet reshuffle by British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown.
Chris Bryant is now responsible for Bermuda and the UK's 13 other Overseas Territories at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
His predecessor Ms Merron has been promoted to Minister for Public Health by Mr. Brown.
Mr. Bryant has been Labour MP for Rhondda in Wales since 2001, and is now Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the FCO. He was previously Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, where he was moved during the 2008 UK Government reshuffle.
The Oxford-educated Christian Socialist and former clergyman has been the subject of controversy recently, having claimed over £92,000 over the five years leading up to this year's scandal over MPs' expenses.
He is said to have "flipped" his second home twice, allowing him to claim almost £20,000 for renovations and fees.
He is one of a large number of UK MPs from both major political parties caught out recently after a High Court ruling on a Freedom of Information request granted the press and public access to the expenses of all Members of Parliament.
Mr. Bryant's private life has also been in the UK headlines, with the openly gay MP having to make a public apology in 2003 after admitting to e-mailing a photo of himself in underwear to a fellow user of the Gaydar website.
The photo was published in the UK press, resulting in homophobic attacks on Mr. Bryant in Wales.
