TENNIS TEN Giant-killer Daniel Miller had his surprise run at this year's Pomander Gate Member's tournament come to a crashing end on Tuesday when top men's B seed Don McCleod halted the youngster's march.

After defeating second seed Tom MacNeil and number six Bruce Fenton earlier in the week, the unseeded 15-year-old Miller had his sights set on another upset as he and McCleod split the first two sets and stood level at 3-3 in the third.

However, that notion was erased as McCleod went on a tear, taking the next three games for the set and the win, with the final score 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Miller was similarly expelled from the men's A singles following a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Martin Zolnai.

Meanwhile, another unseeded player, Paul Hodson, was still on a roll in men's B when he could do no wrong against third seed Eric Lemieux, despite playing with a sore Achilles tendon. Hodson triumphed 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the next round.

In women's action third seed Dominique Laffont needed almost three hours to dispose of Diane Olchowik, the second seed, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in one of the night's most exciting fixtures. Clare Anderton gradually wore down Mary Leigh Chasty for a 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 triumph while Angel Heyliger defeated Clare Diggle 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Suzanne Lemieux ousted Valda Charles 6-1, 6-4.
