World Cup tickets available in January
More than 800,000 tickets ? ranging from $10 for a single match to $300 for the best seats at the final as well as special combinations, tour and travel and corporate hospitality packages ? will go on sale for the Cricket World Cup 2007 from January next year.
Announcing a phased roll-out of ticketing for the event at a press conference in Jamaica yesterday, World Cup Commercial Manager Stephen Price assured cricket fans ?a fair and equitable distribution of tickets? for the 51 matches to be played over 47 days in March and April of 2007 at nine Caribbean venues.
To ensure this, he disclosed that quotas had been allocated for host venue nationals, Caricom residents and international purchasers who would have to apply online or in person to buy the tickets for what is being billed as the biggest sports showpiece in Caribbean history.
?If demand for tickets of a certain price for any one match or combination or package is higher than the number of tickets available, the applications will go into a ballot to determine who receives the tickets,? said Price. ?This ballot will be supervised by independent auditors.?
Playing in the World Cup for the first time, Bermuda will be based in Trinidad and Tobago where they meet England in a warm-up match on March 5, 2007 and Zimbabwe in another warm-up three days later.
Their finals debut will be on March 15 against Sri Lanka in Trinidad with matches against India (March 19) and Bangladesh (March 25) to follow.
Only the top two in their group advance to the quarter-finals.
Tour and travel packages, said Price, would go on sale from January while corporate hospitality packages would be available from February followed by the sale of public tickets on May 1.
Price outlined a three-stage plan with the first stage, from Monday, May 1 to Monday July 31 allowing fans to apply for ?Single Match? tickets, ?Venue Combinations? or ?Follow A Path Combinations?. During this time, applications would be available from the official ICC Ticket Centres and the official ticketing website.
Thereafter, in August, applications and payments would be processed, before Phase Two of applications opened from Friday September 1 to Thursday, November 30. This stage will be conducted on a ?first come, first served? basis with remaining tickets available via the website and official ticket centres in the nine host venues.
The third and final phase of ticketing runs from Monday, January 9, 2007, up to the morning of the final on Saturday April 28 on a ?first come, first served? principle with actual seats being sold from the website, ticket centres and venue box offices.
There will be three price categories ? depending on the quality of seats ? for ?Single Match? tickets, ?Venue Combinations? or ?Follow A Path Combinations? at all matches. There will also be separate ?Party Stand? prices.
?Everyone will have equal chance to buy a ticket and there are prices for every pocket,? assured Price.
Regarding the tour and travel packages, Price said that these would include flights, specially-packaged tours, ground transportation, accommodation and match tickets and would be sold via official travel agents which would be appointed by Cricket Logistics 2007 in cricketing territories throughout the world, starting early next year.
