Shannon Tucker, 20, of High Point Lane in Devonshire, was charged with possession of cannabis while Coy Fox, 24, of Sandy Lane, Hamilton Parish, was charged with handling a drug intended for supply.

The court heard that Tucker and Fox were on work detail at the rear of the Mess Hall at Warwick Camp on July 18.

A member of the Regiment staff observed a man on a motorcycle drive up to the two men and talk to them.

The bike rider left and returned later. A transaction took place between him and Fox and the staff member contacted the Regimental Sergeant Major.

The RSM searched the two men and found a manila envelope in Tucker's possession which contained plant material.

The two soldiers were detained and Police officers collected them. The plant material was analysed and found to be 1.29 grams of cannabis.

Tucker later admitted paying the bike rider $20 to get the cannabis and Fox admitted accepting the drug from the rider when he returned as Tucker was not there.

Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp asked the two men if they had anything to say about receiving a controlled drug on Regiment property.

They both remained silent and she ordered them to report to Probation Services with the warning: "It will be in your best interests to cooperate.'' Ms Mapp then told Tucker and Fox to return to court on December 17 and November 26 respectively for sentencing.

MAN TELLS COURT: `I'LL BE BACK' CTS Man tells court: `I'll be back' A confused 36-year-old Southampton man was told yesterday to find legal representation and return to Magistrates' Court on December 11.

Kevin Johnson, of Sunnyside Park, was charged with the invasion of a woman's privacy on May 13 but told Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp: "I don't remember that.'' Ms Mapp then asked the man which court he wanted to be tried in as the offence was indictable.

Johnson replied: "How can I say which court if I don't remember.'' Ms Mapp had duty counsel Tyrone Chin speak with Johnson and he returned to tell the court that the defendant would like to be tried in Magistrates' Court.

But Johnson blurted out: "I don't know the difference. How am I supposed to know?'' Ms Mapp began to explain the difference but Johnson seemed unable to grasp what she was saying so she told him to find legal representation through the Legal Aid office in the court building.

She then bailed him for $1,000 with a like surety.

As Johnson left the court, he exclaimed: "I'll be back!'' NOT GUILTY, HAMILTON PARISH MAN SAYS CTS Not guilty, Hamilton Parish man says A 35-year-old Hamilton Parish man will be tried in Magistrates' Court on January 16 for two charges allegedly committed on New Year's Day of this year.

Gerald Outerbridge, of North Shore Road, pleaded not guilty to the charges of entering a Hamilton Parish home with the intent to commit a felony and causing grievous bodily harm to the home's owner Reynold Burrows while concerned with another man.

His co-accused, Troy Robinson, has already pleaded not guilty to the charges and will appear on the same day for trial.

Outerbridge was released on $1,500 bail with one like surety by Acting Senior Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp, who told him not to have any contact with the complainant -- either indirectly or directly.

ACCUSED CHOOSES TRIAL BY MAGISTRATE CTS Accused chooses trial by Magistrate A man accused of unlawfully causing grievous bodily harm to his girlfriend pleaded not guilty in Magistrates' Court and elected trial by Magistrate.

Michael A. Bell, address not given, is alleged on November 9 to have caused injury to Michelle Talbot at their Paget area apartment. Magistrate Edward King heard Ms Talbot is currently recovering from injuries at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The Crown requested Bell be rolled over for November 26 mention when further charges are expected to be entered.

Bell was released on bail and ordered to have no contact with Ms Talbot.

SECURITY GUARD STOLE ATM CARD CTS Security guard stole ATM card A security guard who stole his co-worker's ATM card and proceeded to steal $290 worth of cash from it over several days, was fined $600 in Magistrates' Court.

Mayceo Larry Tavares 22, of Valley Road Paget, who is employed as a security guard at Island Wide Security, pleaded guilty to the offences that occurred from November 22 to November 28, 1995.

Prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Tavares worked on a contruction site with the complainant Bennett Phipps.

On December 3, 1995 Phipps went to St. George's Police Station and reported that his work bag had been stolen.

Tavares had taken the ATM card from the bag and withdrew $100 from the Bank of Butterfield's Collector's Hill ATM branch on November 22.

On November 23, he went to the Modern Mart's Bank of Butterfield ATM on three occasions and withdrew $140.

The next day he went back to the same ATM and took out $50. On November 28 he attempted to withdraw more money but the slip informed him that the account had insufficient funds.

Tavares who has two previous convictions for dishonesty -- he stole two cheques and obtained money under false pretences in November 1993 -- was fined $600 by Senior Magistrate Will Francis.

Of that amount $290 is to be returned to Phipps as compensation.
