Bermuda General Post Office released the set last week to coincide with the international event which features a royal visit. Prince Michael of Kent, president of The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom, presented the World Congress dog show prizes at the Botanical Gardens yesterday.
Dogs depicted on the stamps, designed by Bermudian Ms Jacqueline Murray Hall, include the German Shepherd, Irish Setter, whippet, border terrier, Pomeranian and schipperke.
Today Prince Michael officially opens the Congress meetings at Hamilton's Princess Hotel. Around 100 delegates, observers and sponsors from 18 countries are participating in the five-day series of seminars.
TOURISM TALKS TOU Tourism talks High tea and airline negotiations will be on the itinerary of Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge and Tourism Director Mr. Gary Phillips when they attend the World Travel Market opening in London tomorrow.
The annual travel exhibition is being held in Earls Court and is expected to attract some 3,000 exhibitors and more than 40,000 visitors.
Mr. Woolridge will host a Bermuda High Tea for tour operators, airline and hotel representatives, and will then be interviewed and photographed by two top UK travel trade publications, the Travel Trade Gazette and Travel Weekly.
In the evening Mr. Woolridge and Mr. Phillips will attend the Global Awards, at which various organisations in the travel industry are presented with awards.
Bermuda Tourism's London office is vying for an award with its newest brochure, Seventh Heaven.
While in London Mr. Woolridge will also address the Bermuda Society at the Guildhall and meet with airline executives.
VETS' CONFERENCE CON Vets' conference More than 200 veterinarians from the United States met in Bermuda over the weekend to discuss developments in pet health care.
The Northeast Region meeting of the American Animal Hospital Association was held at the Sonesta Beach Hotel in Southampton.
The vets received the latest information in small animal medicine from the profession's top authorities.
Seminars included cardiology, emergency medicine, opthalmology, dentistry and practice management.
A spokeswoman said: "The AAHA encourages its members to keep abreast of major developments in veterinary medicine through continuing education courses.
"The AAHA is an international organisation of more than 10,000 veterinarians who treat companion animals such as dogs and cats.'' GAS PRICES UP EGY Gas prices up Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pockets as a result of an increase in the price of gas today.
Minister of Finance, the Hon. David Saul announced that the two local oil companies are raising gasolene prices by 0.5 cents per litre.
The increase follows last month's 0.8 cents fall, and reflects this year's up-and-down pattern of prices.
The price of diesel and kerosene fall today, after increases in October, and again follow the year's unpredictable pattern.
Diesel is down 0.7 cents per litre and kerosene by one cent per litre, cancelling out last month's one cent rise.
BANNED AGAIN CTS Banned again A Sandys man was disqualified from driving until November 18, 1995, in Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Antonio Cabral, 17, of Middle Road, was caught by Police near his home on November 7.
He was charged with driving while disqualified, making use of an unlicensed vehicle and having no insurance. He pleaded guilty to all three offences.
Prosecuting, Sgt. Rex Osborne said that Cabral had been disqualified for two years, in May, for speeding.
Senior Magistrate, the Wor. Will Francis disqualified Cabral for another 18 months and fined him a total of $750.
