Want to be a model? This is your chance

If you’ve dreamed of becoming the world’s next supermodel, but can’t afford the airfare to the nearest fashion metropolis, then your day might be coming.Would-be models will have the chance to impress international fashion agents at City Fashion Week right here in Bermuda this July.Talent scouts from Elite Model Management in London and editors of international fashion magazines will be in the crowd, looking for fresh faces.A model call will be held this weekend for the four shows that will make up Fashion Week: the Evolution Fashion Show, international and local designer showcases and a hair and beauty event.“It is going to be a much bigger event than in previous years with a lot more to see and do,” said Fashion Week co-ordinator Tamara Bradshaw.Organisers are expecting a big turnout for auditions. Only 30 girls and 20 boys will be selected, along with 30 men and 100 women.“We have a lot of exciting things planned this year,” said Ms Bradshaw. “There is opportunity for everybody.”Participants must be at least three years old. Women will need to wear a minimum 4” heel, preferably a stiletto.“We take all sizes because we do have a fuller-figure collection,” said Ms Bradshaw. “We will have a designer collection for tall, slim girls, but our Evolution show will feature women of all sizes. We are really looking for fresh faces; basically, anyone who has never tried their hand at modelling.”She said not to worry if you are a rank beginner, as those chosen will be put through an intensive camp before rehearsals even start.“It is going to be fun, exciting and demanding,” said Ms Bradshaw. “However, if you are selected there is a commitment to attend rehearsals and to be a part of the activities that are going on. You have to be ready and willing. We pride ourselves on shows that meet an international standard so we expect a lot from our models.”In previous city fashion shows, several Bermuda models were selected by top fashion agencies to take part in international fashion shows. One of them, Julia Lines, was recently contracted to Elite.Auditions will be held on April 13 and 14 from 11am to 3pm at Jakoma in the old Berkeley Institute assembly hall, and on April 15 at Whitney Institute from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and on April 16 at Warwick Academy from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. City Fashion Week will be held July 1 to 7.For information e-mail events@cityhall.bm or tbradshaw@cityhall.bm. Follow the event on Facebook at Facebook.com/evolutionbda or on Twitter @evolutionbda.
