Tomkinson and Bordage tops in Criterium champs
Scott Tomkinson and Karen Bordage were crowned men’s and women’s Bermuda Bicycle Association Criterium champions on Sunday after holding off stiff opposition on their way to winning their titles in Hamilton.The pair fought off some of the Island’s best riders on their way to securing the titles while Mark Hatherley and Laurie Orchard were installed as National champions after they crossed the line right behind the winners.The top finishing Bermudian in each of the Open and Junior races took the title of the best in Bermuda, although the top finishers in both Open categories were non-residents.Brian Drea and Earlena Ingham rounded out the top three in the Open Men’s and Women’s divisions.Dominique Mayho won the Junior Male category ahead of Vashon Cann and Mark Godfrey in a thrilling race to the finish, while Gabriella Arnold held off Kamryn Minors to claim the Junior Female title.Zion Dowling battled with Alex Pilgrim and Kaz Godfrey in the Junior B category before coming out on top, with Pilgrim grabbing second and Godfrey locking up third.Jayden Ming won the Junior C division ahead of Malik Joell and Nick Pilgrim.There are two more races remaining before the conclusion of the 2011 road racing season.This Sunday will see the final race of the ten-race series in which riders will be scored on points based on finishing positions throughout the season scoring their eight best races.The Adult ‘A’ division will come down to the final race with first and second, Hatherley and Drea, separated by just a single point.The final race will take place on October 30 with the final race of the Capital G Time Trial Series.
