In Magistrates' Court this week, William G. Robinson of Middle Road, Smith's, pleaded guilty to using offensive words.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, told the court that Robinson was involved in a one-man cycle accident at the junction of Front Street and Point Pleasant Road on July 19.

When Police arrived at the scene they found Robinson swearing and under the influence of alcohol. He continued swearing after the Police gave him a warning. He was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Sgt. Giles said Robinson was also rude to his father when he arrived at the station. The father expressed concern over his son's behaviour.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge adjourned the case for two weeks pending a social inquiry report. Bail was set at $200 with a surety for the same amount.

Mr. Judge also ordered Robinson to surrender his travel documents after hearing that he threatened to return to relatives in Canada.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT KEPT IN CUSTODY CTS An illegal immigrant, claiming to be from the Dominican Republic, was remanded in Police custody this week for two weeks.

Jose Williams, who does not speak English, appeared in Magistrates' Court but the case was adjourned for mention.

He first appeared on July 6 and pleaded not guilty to landing in Bermuda in violation of immigration laws, landing without the Minister's permission and stealing $290 worth of clothing.

With the aid of an interpreter, he said he got off a "tourist boat'' thinking he was in New York or New Jersey.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, told the court that the Immigration Department is still trying to confirm the man's name and place of origin.

DISPUTE LED TO CAR DAMAGE CTS A dispute over a boyfriend led a pregnant woman to damage another woman's car.

Shanareeka Burchall admitted to unlawfully damaging the car while it was in the parking lot at the junction of Dundonald and Court Street.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, told the court that last December Burchall put a continuous scratch around the car and on the hood.

When the owner returned, she saw Burchall nearby and called the Police.

Duty counsel Mr. Mark Pettingill said the 18-year-old Pembroke resident had willingly paid the car's owner $900, which exceeded the amount of damages.

Acting Senior Magistrate the Wor. John Judge gave Burchall a conditional discharge.

PUNT'S ENGINE WAS NOT REGISTERED CTS Failure to register an outboard engine on his son's punt resulted in an appearance in Magistrates' Court for a Pembroke man.

Aldo N. Pace, 38, admitted failing to notify Marine & Ports about a change in particulars of the small boat.

Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, told the court that Marine Police at South Channel stopped the boat on April 16 to carry out a safety check.

Inquiries revealed that the boat was registered as a punt and should not have an engine.

Pace, of Mariner's Lane, explained that he had built the boat for his son and registered it. When he put the six horsepower engine on it he did not realise he had to notify the authorities.

After telling Acting Senior Magistrate, the Wor. John Judge, that he had since registered the engine, Pace was given a conditional discharge.
