The Royal Marines Band will perform a "beat the retreat'' ceremony alongside the royal yacht, which will be berthed off Front Street.

The band will also play tomorrow night in Front Street, with the Bermuda Regiment Band and the Bermuda Pipe Band.

Both performances start at 8 p.m.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Mr. Roger Sherratt urged people to come along and listen.

He described the Royal Marines Band as the "finest band'' in the world.

MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT CTS A 32-year-old Pembroke man was charged in Magistrates' Court yesterday with sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 14.

The man was not required to plead to the offence which is alleged to have occurred on November 5.

He was released on $1,000 bail and one surety and will reappear in court on March 2. The man is represented by lawyer Mr. Mark Telemaque.

STEREOS STOLEN CRM A thief smashed a car sun roof to get to an expensive car stereo system on Tuesday afternoon.

The thief broke into the car parked on Mill Reach Lane, Pembroke. He stole an Alpine CD player and a graphic equaliser, valued in excess of $2,000.

Police reported another incident where a purse was stolen from a woman's car on Dundonald Street, on Tuesday evening.

Police spkesman P.c. Gary Venning said: "The woman left her car content in the knowledge that it was suitably hidden.

"On returning an hour later however, she discovered someone had gained access through an unlocked hatchback and removed a purse.'' The purse contained around $30 in cash, a gold engagement ring and credit cards.

CHRISTMAS THEFT CTS A magistrate suggested why 18-year-old Mathyio Frederick Simons may have stole two sweaters on Boxing Day.

"Didn't you get enough Christmas gifts?'' asked the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp.

Prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James told Magistrates' Court Simons was seen taking the sweaters from a car in Malabar Close, Sandys Parish.

He said the multi-coloured sweaters -- worth together $50 -- were someone's Christmas presents.

Mr. James added Simons, of Malabar Close, told Police: "I don't know what came over me.'' Mrs. Mapp described Simons' behaviour as "senseless'', and asked: "Why are you helping yourself to someone else's presents?'' She ordered a social inquiry report and adjourned the case until February 21.

Simons, who admitted theft, was granted $200 bail.
