Local companies named to work on first phase of Fairmont Hamilton Princess refurbishment
A local architect and contractor have been appointed to carry out renovation work on the Fairmont Hamilton Princess as part of a major refurbishment of one of Bermuda's most historic luxury hotels.
Terceira Quarterly Associates Architects & Interior Design and Greymane Contracting have been named to undertake the first phase of work at the hotel.
The capital investment follows Goodman Hospitality Investments' purchase of the landmark property last month.
The first phase of renovations, valued between $9 and $10 million, will see the complete renovation and redesign of 113 rooms in the hotel's Bay Wing. Terceira Quarterly Associates will serve as project architect and Greymane Contractors as the general contractor.
"We are pleased to be working with Terceira Quarterly Associates and Greymane Contracting to begin the extensive renovations to the Fairmont Hamilton Princess," said Jon Crellin, general manager for the hotel.
"Beginning November 12, the Bay Wing will be placed into their capable hands with the aim of completing the first phase of the refurbishment by the end of April."
Glyn Quarterly, of Terceira Quarterly Associates, Architecture and Interior Design, said: "In our role as project architect, Terceira Quarterly Associates will work closely with Fairmont and the new property owner, Goodman Hospitality Investments, to coordinate the architecture and interior design aspects of the project, and manage contract administration during construction on-site.
"In addition, we will be designing various aspects of the proposed hotel redevelopment beginning with the façade and new balconies of the Bay Wing to project a Bermudian architectural style."
Alex De Couto, commercial manager for Greymane Contracting, said: "With our extensive experience providing general contracting services to some of the island's finest hotels, Greymane Contracting is pleased to partner with Fairmont and Goodman Hospitality Investments on the upcoming renovations at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
"We will oversee all aspects of clearing the existing Bay Wing and will provide turn-key coordination of the labour and materials needed to complete the 113-room renovation."
Laurent Poole, president and CEO of Goodman Hospitality Investments said: "The Fairmont Hamilton Princess is Bermuda's oldest and most iconic hotel, and it is immensely satisfying to provide the capital investment needed to maintain its grand stature for years to come."
The Bay Wing renovation is the first in a multi-phased refurbishment of the 122-year old hotel. Future phases of the project will also include upgrades to guest rooms in the Gazebo, Pool and Fairmont Gold Wings of the hotel.
Additional plans include refurbishing the hotel's public spaces including the lobby, fitness centre, spa, pool and restaurants. The majority of the work will take place during the winter months to ensure minimum disruption to guests.
