Mountain Bike kids ready for new series

The Tokio Youth Mountain Bike series has proved to be extremely popular among the Island’s juniors in recent years. And event coordinator Selina Meade believes this year’s Bermuda Bicycle Association sanctioned seven-race series will be no exception.“It’s exciting to see the event develop from year to year and the interest level in the community increase,” she said. “It’s encouraging to see the kids return and watch their confidence levels rise from year to year.“It’s truly wonderful to see a child who was initially timid and shy in their first year of the event and then see them the following year, highly motivated to race ahead of the pack. And for the little wee ones, this event gives them a chance to gain confidence in riding a bicycle and to practise basic principles of strength, coordination and motor development.”Meade added that participants are free to use any kind of bicycle (even those with training wheels) to participate. She also stressed that they must bring their own helmet and have a parent/guardian sign a waiver in order to be eligible to compete.Races will be held each week at the Arboretum and Ferry Reach Park from November 19 to January 28.For further details on the upcoming series contact Selina Meade at smeade[AT]tokiomillennium.com or Tina Booth at cbooth[AT]tokiomillennium.com or 297-6700.ScheduleSaturday, November 19, 2011 The Arboretum at 4:00pm.Saturday, November 26, 2011 The Arboretum at 4:00pm.Sunday, December 4, 2011 The Arboretum at 2:00pm.Saturday, January 7, 2012 The Arboretum at 4:00pm.Sunday, January 15, 2012 Ferry Reach at 2:00pm.Saturday, January 21, 2012 The Arboretum at 4:00pm.Saturday, January 28, 2012 The Arboretum at 4:00pm.
