Chance of a sound investment

The Corporation of Hamilton is seeking bids for a $20,000 vintage grand piano, which no-one at City Hall has a use for.

The history of the 1926 Steinway is sketchy, although it is known to have been bought by a Mrs. Charles Rogers of Paget in that year.

According to Corporation Secretary Kelly Miller, it was donated to City Hall at some point. It was used in performances at an auditorium before this was replaced by the National Gallery, then later at City Hall Theatre.

When the Bermuda Festival bought its own piano some nine years ago, it was moved into a Corporation-owned residence, where it stayed until now. Its sale has been prompted because the occupier of the property has moved out.

According to City Engineer Ian Hind, who is taking bids for the piano, there has been plenty of interest so far including from a music teacher who wants a beautiful instrument to teach on.

Anyone interested in making a bid can contact him at 292-1234 extension 209 or email ihindcityhall.bm to arrange a viewing.
