Hornets look to keep run going
Defending league champions Dandy Town, fast recovering from early injury setbacks, will be hoping to continue their revival this evening when they aim to avenge an earlier loss to cross-town rivals and Martonmere Cup champions Devonshire Cougars at St. John's Field (9.00 p.m).
Despite losing to Devonshire Colts, 2-0, in their last outing, Cougars will pose a serious threat to Town's resurgence and will be seeking to get back to their own winning ways.
But it remains to be seen whether player/coach Sean Smith and Galvin Butterfield, who limped off injured during last Sunday's contest, will be fit enough to rejoin the action tonight. Kori Goddard, however, should return after sitting out the last encounter through suspension.
Town, who last week defeated PHC 3-2 and welcomed the return of Rodney Bascome and David Burchall to their ranks, will be looking to maintain a steady climb up the table. Coach Andrew Bascome is wary of the significance of early results and the reality that if Cougars continue their winning form, the battle for not only league supremacy but also survival will be tough in an eight-team format that does not allow for complacency.
Tonight's match will be preceded by a Women's Division clash between Dandy Stars and Rude Girls (7.00 p.m.).
On Sunday at BAA Field, new league leaders Wolves take on North Village who just cannot seem to get it right these days, having extended their recent slump last week with a 3-1 away loss to Somerset.
Village, however, did show flashes of brilliance with Clay Smith enjoying a bitter-sweet debut, scoring a goal but ending up on the losing team. And the return of Kentoine and Kevin Jennings was a welcome sight for the Village faithful.
