Actuarial student wins Ordinance award

Award: Guy Cloutier (left), president of Ordinance Holdings, with actuarial student Christina Ratteray and BFIS president Michael Fisher.

Christina Ratteray is the second Bermudian student to receive a monetary award from Ordinance Holdings Ltd.'s Award for Achievement in Actuarial Studies offered to actuarial students from Bermuda.

Christina, a Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies scholarship recipient, has just graduated from Southern Adventist University with a degree in Actuarial Science.

In addition to gaining a degree, students who want to become fully accredited actuaries must pass an additional nine exams, usually taking the first two while in college and the remainder over the next few years after they have started full-time employment.

Christina successfully completed the first two exams for admission to the Casualty Actuarial Society and will be continuing to take the exams while she pursues a Master's degree in Actuarial Science at Illinois State University, starting this August.

Guy Cloutier, president of Bermuda-based Ordinance Holdings, part of the American Safety Insurance group, said: "We are delighted to show our support and encouragement to Christina through this award of $500. She has demonstrated her talent and is working hard to achieve her dreams.

"This also demonstrates our support of the great work BFIS is doing in providing scholarships, mentoring, internships and career guidance to students wanting to enter the insurance sector."
