Three months jail for man who swore at Police

A 32-year-old Southampton man was sentenced to three months of jail time for verbally assaulting a Police officer.

In Magistrates' Court on Friday Ibe Keimo Todd pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on May 4 at around 7 p.m.

According to the prosecution, Todd was seen by officers on CCTV footage drinking a beer from a brown paper bag at the Washington Lane bus station.

He was observed harassing and interfering with other passengers waiting for the bus and when Police arrived and attempted to arrest Todd, he shouted at them: "F*** you. You're dead."

Todd was then conveyed to the Hamilton Police Station where he continued his verbal assaults telling the on-duty jailer: "You're done. I am going to go kill you. You think I am joking. See if I f***ing don't."

Todd said he had apologised to the officer and was sorry for wasting their time.

He said: "I am sorry for my actions. I am sorry for threatening him. He came into my cell and I apologised to him. They told me they were arresting me for a liquor issue but I got annoyed. Why are you troubling me?

"I did say those words, but I am sorry for my actions."

Todd also pleaded not guilty to grabbing and yelling at a 13-year-old girl during the same incident.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner told Todd: "You must realise you cannot go around threatening people."

Mr. Warner then sentenced Todd to three months imprisonment and set him down for a trial on July 26 for allegedly threatening the girl.
