Nationals with a good chance of producing an upset, says captain Webster Mills.

Social Club, for so long one of the weaker teams in the league, have a new determination these days with former Cup Match all-rounder Lee Raynor lending his vast experience in a player/coach role.

"The addition of Lee Raynor and spinner Desmond Smith has made a lot of difference to the team,'' said Mills. "They have inspired everybody and now the players seem to be more committed, especially during training.

"Already people are seeing an entirely different Social Club, the players are fitter and there is real team spirit. We were soundly beaten by Police in the second round last year but I know for sure that we will be more competitive this time around.'' Raynor, Mills and Cecil Tucker are the team's three senior players while the team will also rely on the likes of Thomas, Dwayne Adams, Caldon Grimes and Thompson for runs.

"Lee's presence as player/coach has had a tremendous impact on us,'' Mills said. "But most importantly it has enabled me to concentrate on my own performance. Before I was the coach, player, captain and trying to keep the team together in the meantime. I didn't have too much time to concentrate on my batting.

"Now Lee has taken over a lot of these responsibilities. I haven't made any big scores yet but I'm confident the runs will come. We have a good mixture of youth and experience in the team. Desmond Smith is one of our most promising players with his spin and medium-pace bowling.

"But one of the bright spots this season also has been the fast bowling of Roddy Thompson and Vincent Tweed.'' Nationals captain Darrin Lewis has said he will not be taking Social Club lightly, even though their opponents have only won one match so far this season.

"Our chances against Nationals are great if we go into the game with a positive attitude,'' added Mills. "If we hold our catches and our bowlers maintain a good line and length we can pull off victory, I truly believe we can.

"It's the best team we have had in a while. We've been able to strengthen ourselves where we have been lacking for many years and things appear to be looking up for us at last. We've let some teams get off the hook after having them in trouble, but things will turn around.'' WEBSTER MILLS.
