Education month plans underway

Education Month committee chairperson Mrs. Maureen Nusum said last week, in the department's Christmas term bulletin, she hoped to finalise plans for school activities over the holidays.

Mrs. Nusum said some schools would hold open days while others would organise mathematics or science fairs.

"A large number of schools have agreed to perform lunchtime concerts at the National Gallery in Hamilton, which is just one of many activities aimed at heightening the general public's awareness of our schools and the good work that they do,'' the mathematics resource teacher said.

"We have made arrangements with the General Post Office to have every piece of mail going through the postal system stamped with a Bermuda Crest and the words: `February is Education Month', which is an easy and inexpensive way to raise our profile.'' While plans have yet to be finalised, Education Month will close on February 28 with a gala family fun day at Stonington Campus in Paget.

A full timetable of Education Month activities will be published in the new year.
