Work begins on $70m Fairmont Hamilton Princess renovation

A $70 million renovation of the Fairmont Hamilton Princess has begun, creating 150 jobs on the construction sector.Work on a state-of-the-art marina — the first phase of the three-stage development — is now underway and should be complete by next summer. At the start of November, work will begin on the other phases, including guest room renovations, a facelift for the west side pool area, and the construction of a new gazebo-style bar and grill next to the marina. The hotel said the main property renovations were expected to be completed by spring of 2014, in time for the peak summer season. The contractors chosen are Correia Construction Company for the marina, Somers Construction for the guest room renovations and D&J Construction Company for the pool area and bar and grill.During the renovation of its 69 guestrooms and suites, the hotel’s Poinciana wing will be closed. The Bermudiana wing will also shut down for periods when construction is at its height but the rest of hotel will remain open and fully operational throughout the renovation.General manager Len Czarnecki said: “We are very excited to see this major project underway. We appreciate the careful planning by our owners, the Green Family, to ensure a seamless renovation that doesn’t impact the guest experience.“This renovation and restoration will truly transform the Fairmont Hamilton Princess into Bermuda’s premier luxury destination.”
