She and Basden had a brief conversation before he punched her in her left eye.Ms Scott reported the incident to police and was treated for a bruised eye at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.Basden later visited Hamilton Police Station and admitted the incident.Ms Mulligan said Ms Scott attempted to withdraw her complaint because she felt she needed to be able to communicate with Basden for their child’s sake. The prosecutor also noted that Basden has no prior convictions, and pleaded guilty at the earliest possible opportunity.Duty counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson said the incident was an unfortunate one and the defendant was very apologetic and willing to undergo counselling to maintain a civil and cordial relationship with Ms Scott.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered a social inquiry report and released Basden on $2,000 bail.
