Women in Front Street brawl
Police had to separate two brawling women involved in a ?violent struggle? on Front Street, a court heard.
Large crowds gathered near Cafe Cairo as Shada Trott and Karlandia Smith traded blows. Crown counsel Oonagh Vaucrosson said patrol Police heard shouting and screaming and saw the feuding defendants punching and kicking each other.
At times, they were pulling on clothing, she added. Officers moved to separate the pair but they continued kicking out and shouting at each other. Both were told to calm down but were later arrested for fighting in public.
Trott, 19, of Broken Hill Lane, Smith?s, apologised for fighting and said she had been provoked.
She told the court that she had a long-standing dispute with Smith over a boyfriend.
Smith, 21, of Footbridge Lane, Pembroke, also said sorry yesterday and added: ?I know for a fact this will never happen again.?
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner noted that the pair were in court on Valentine?s Day after ?fighting over a boy?.
He added: ?I hope you are embarrassed.?
The defendants admitted fighting at 3.30 a.m. on February 11 and were both handed one-year conditional discharges.
Neither have previous convictions, the court was told. Mr. Warner encouraged the media not to publish the name and address of the defendants after hearing the facts of the case, but decided it was in the public interest to do so.
