Artist Sheilagh sees the Light!

A ONE-woman art show by Sheilagh Head opened last night at the Windjammer Gallery with a special preview and wine reception for gallery friends and patrons.

The exhibition, which opens to the public today and runs until November 30, is Mrs. Head's first solo art show since 1996. Named Island Light to reflect her love of islands and the use of light in her paintings, the exhibit is comprised of 30 pieces, all of which have been completed in the last two years.

The British-born artist's oil paintings are impressionist in nature and include landscapes and seascapes of Bermuda scenes in addition to scenes from Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine. "The paintings (for the show) reflect light in all its forms," said Mrs. Head.

Windjammer Gallery manager Devon Moss noted the Island Light exhibit is very strong. "The paintings are fantastic and they have a real presence," she said.

Following Island Light, the Windjammer Gallery is set to host Miniatures for Christmas, an exhibit featuring several artists' works including Eric Amos, Diana Amos, Mark Boden, Dan Dempster, Sheilagh Head, Jonah Jones, Chris Mason, Steven Masters, Jon Mills, Anne Proctor, Maria Smith, Lesa Stovell and Bruce Stuart.

Miniatures for Christmas will be open to the public on Friday, December 6 and will run though to the New Year.

The Windjammer Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays.
