Wild and wet weather
The streets of Hamilton ran fast with water yesterday after Bermuda received its heaviest rainfall of the year ? 1.72 inches of rain fell in the hour between 9 and 10 a.m.
In total the Island received two inches of rain yesterday, according to the Bermuda Weather Service.
One of the most drenched streets was Dundonald, which Acting City Engineer Ian Hind explained lies close to sea level and tends to collect water from surrounding hilly areas.
The street was blocked off during the morning rush hour, between 8 and 10 a.m.
Water breached the top of the steps at Masters, sales manager Ed Lindo said, delaying the opening of the store.
The water was almost waist high and ?obviously no one?s going in or going out,? he said.
Despite the high water level, Masters? doors held up. ?We just had a couple of trickles coming through our doors.? Mr. Lindo said. ?It was a close call?.
By midday the sun had come out, the water in the streets had receded and the temperature had reached 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Meteorologist Declan O?Connell said that temperature made it the warmest day of the year to date as well as the wettest.
