Patchett leads the way in 20K
Lynn Patchett showed that she is the one to beat in this years Marathon Derby with a dominating performance in Sundays RMS Construction 20K Road Race.
In humid conditions, Patchett took the lead from the start and never looked back, finishing in a time of 1hour 21mins 57 secs, over a minute ahead of her time the previous year.
Triathlete Karen Smith put in a strong performance to take second place, 1 minute 30 secs behind Patchett with Victoria Fiddick finishing in third.
An elated Patchett said she was pleased with her performance with May 24th being just over four weeks away.
?It is a real boost as the girls I will be racing on May 24th were all here today,? she said. ?I am really looking forward to the Marathon Derby as I have put in a lot of training?.
In the Men?s Open division, Kavin Smith cruised to a comfortable victory finishing in a time of 1:11.56 with overall Masters winner, and race sponsor, Ricky Sousa in second place in a time of 1:14.54.
Leon Bascombe put in a fine performance to finish in third and take honours in the 20-39 age group.
In the female Masters, it was multiple Marathon day ladies champion Anna Eatherly taking honours in a time of 1:27.13 ahead of Carolyn Conway in 1:43.54 and April Vesey in third place.
Mike Osborn took the honours in the Senior Masters holding off Tony Prentice with Ian Coles finishing back in the third spot.
Mike Rickards won the male veterans category (over 60) in a creditable time of 1:51.31.
