Dillas makes cut in US
Bermuda's Jarryd Dillas extended his rich vein of form into the 2002 Future Masters junior golf tournament currently underway at the Highland Oaks Golf Course in Dothan, Alabama.
During Tuesday's humid conditions in the southern state, Dillas got off to a tremendous start to shoot a one over 73 that was sufficient enough to make the unusual cut which took place after the first 18 holes of the 54 hole tournament.
This year's dominant junior now tees off today during second round action at the 6,600 yard, par 72 course.
Dillas is tied for seventh place among his age group (15-16) and remains four strokes adrift of the leaders.
The top 48 and tied finishers from the first round all made the cut that fell at 76.
In all, over 500 top junior players from around the globe are vying for the Future Masters title in various age brackets. The tournament concludes tomorrow.
“I really hit the ball well, made a lot of fairways and greens,”said Dillas, speaking from Alabama. “The greens were very fast, especially compared to the ones back home.
“Hitting the ball below the hole was very crucial and making good putts.”
With the cut made Dillas said he hoped he could carry his form forward.
Meanwhile, fellow local teenager Aaron James failed to make the cut in the boys 17-18 years age group.
James shot a disappointing 82, and is now switching his focus to the upcoming Junior World Golf Tournament to be held in San Diego, California.
“I managed to hit the ball fairly well off the tee. But once I got into the fairway I couldn't find the green. On this course you need to hit the greens or else you won't be shooting well,” said James.
