Seniors' beach cleaned up by Sandys Rotary Club members

Members of Sandys Rotary Club worked to remove five truck loads of garbage from the beach at Packwood Home for seniors.

The clean-up at Ely's Harbour, in Somerset, involved almost 30 Rotary Club members, said President James Watlington, who said the beach had not been tended to for about ten years.

Mr. Watlington said: "We had been involved in a fair amount of chain sawing, lifting and carrying and it was a lot of work carried out on it. We cleared all the brush that had completely invaded the beach and cut that back, and prepared old boats and things for transport to the dump. I feel like we achieved a lot."

The community service project, which took place on October 9, was part of the Rotary Club's commitments, which also include fellowship, vocational and international service.

Mr. Watlington said: "I think it is extremely important or else I wouldn't do it. We have done similar things in the past to make a difference in the community."

Next up for the club is its Christmas raffle project going on throughout November and December.
