Prosecuting Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that on Sunday October 10 last year, at 4.58 p.m. Jose Medeiros, 32 of Point Finger Road was caught by Police speeding along the stretch on Middle Road in Devonshire.

When asked why he had been travelling at such a high speed, Medeiros said: "I had a quarrel with my fiancee and I was kind of mad.'' Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said: "You're emotions were making your foot push down on the accelerator. I understand but that's one of the worst reasons for speeding, you're out of control when you drive like that.'' Mr. Francis fined Medeiros $600 and disqualified him from driving private cars for three years.

COMPLAINT FILED OVER KNIFE FIGHT POL Complaint filed over knife fight A complaint has been filed with Police following a weekend knife fight at the Spinning Wheel Club in which four men were wounded.

Police said they have not made any arrests in the early Saturday morning melee that saw the four men treated and released at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Two of the men were slashed in the face.

The complaint was filed with Police on Monday morning.

Most seriously hurt was a 28-year-old Southampton man who suffered multiple facial cuts and a fractured hand. A 38-year-old man was also cut about the face.

A 37-year-old Pembroke man and a 27-year-old Smith's man received knife wounds to their upper arms.

THIEF STEALS STEREO FROM SANDYS HOME CRM Thief steals stereo from Sandys home A thief made off with a stereo system from from a residence on Heathcfote Hill in Sandys on Sunday night, Police said.

The theft of the stereo, valued at $245, occurred after the culprit smashed a pane of glass in the kitchen.

MAN TO FACE CURRENCY CHARGES CRM Man to face currency charges A 35-year-old Southampton man will be sent to the Supreme Court where he will be charged with 48 counts of foreign currency violations.

Calvin S. Edwards of Railway Trail was not required to enter a plea for 21 charges of false declaration, 21 charges of not using the money and handing it back, and six counts for declaration for gifts in Magistrates' Court this week.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis bailed Edwards in the sum of $1000 with conditions not to purchase any foreign currency without court consent.

INSTANT SUNSHINE SET TO PERFORM ENT Instant sushine set to perform Music and laughter are expected to abound when Instant Sunshine perform at the City Hall on February 6.

The musical comedy team, of television and radio fame in England, will take the stage at 2 p.m.

Organisers say the concert is a boon for fans who missed out on tickets for other performances next month.

Tickets can be snapped up at the Box Office in the Visitors' Service Bureau.

RETIRING GOV'T MPS TO BE HONOURED PTL Retiring Gov't MPs to be honoured Retiring Government MPs will be among those honoured at a United Bermuda Party banquet.

Party chairman Mr. Gary Pitman announced the Recognition Banquet in honour of retiring members of the Legislature and other party officials who have served since the last banquet in 1987.

Honourees include recent former Minister of Delegated Affairs the Hon. Sir John Sharpe, former Transport Ministers the Hon. Ralph Marshall, the Hon.

Sidney Stallard and the Hon. Haskins Davis and last Speaker of the House of Assembly the Hon. David Wilkinson.

The banquet will be held in the Atlantic Room of the Southampton Princess on February 5. Legacy will provide the entertainment.
