Prominent leader to speak at BFIS dinner
The head of Property Casualty Insurers Association of America will speak about "Regulatory Developments in the United States" when he addresses local insurance industry leaders and donors at the Bermuda Foundation For Insurance Studies (BFIS) first annual Founders' Dinner.
The June 27 event for chief executives of its member companies celebrates BFIS, which was founded by leading insurance executives in the late 1990s to help educate young Bermudians and bring them into the insurance industry.
BFIS chairman Brian Hall said: "BFIS can do a service for our industry leaders in the form of a "thank you" by inviting a noteworthy speaker to share his or her views, ideas, and visions regarding important topics of current interest in our industry."
Christopher D. Sposato, president of BFIS, said the foundation chose Ernst "Ernie" Csiszarto be the guest speaker because of his prominent position as the leader of an association representing so many US insurers which form the largest part of the Bermuda market's client base.
He has been head of PCI ? which was formed following a merger of National Association of Independent Insurers and the Alliance of American ? since October 2004 and as such, he oversees a staff of 240, a $40 million budget and represents more than 1,000 member companies that write almost 40 percent of the nation's property and casualty insurance.
Prior to taking up the post he was director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance, where he introduced operational efficiencies and helped create a thriving insurance market in South Carolina. He also assumed a leadership role within the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), serving as secretary-treasurer and vice president. He served as president of the NAIC in 2004. He previously served as president and chief executive officer of Seibels Bruce Group, Inc., a Columbia, S.C. insurance company and was a visiting professor at the School of Business at the University of South Carolina and a managing co-director of the European investment-banking firm Holborn Holdings Corporation in Geneva, Switzerland.
