Hockey team crowned Carib champs
Bermuda?s ball hockey team, made up mostly of Canadians, have returned triumphant from the Caribbean Championships in Grand Cayman.
It was the second straight year that Bermuda, skippered by Mike Moore, had lifted the title and the team are now setting their sights on the biennial World Championships which take place between June 13 and 18 in Pittsburgh.
The local team finished a creditable ninth at the last Worlds, held in Sierre, Switzerland in 2003, and will be looking to improve on that showing.
In Cayman, Bermuda defeated the Turks and Caicos 4-2, Barbados 8-1 and drew with Grand Cayman 1-1 during the round robin phase.
They then defeated Turks and Caicos 6-1 in the semi-finals before beating Cayman for the second straight year in the final, emerging winners by a score of 2-1.
Leading goalscorers were Eric Bertrand and Ken Shula while John Cowan again put up a solid performance in goal.
