Magistrates' Court when he learned he would be sentenced in the Supreme Court.

Dwayne Doars, 25, of North Shore Road, Pembroke, was convicted of eight cheque offences including two counts of stealing; two of forgery; two of uttering; and two of false pretences.

Police prosecutor Sgt. Anthony Mouchette said the charges related to two cheques. Doars stole one cheque from a Juliette Tolbert, forged it in the amount of $1,800, and tried to cash it at the Bank of Butterfield on October 1, 1996.

He stole the second cheque from Carlos Garcia, between December 30 and 31, 1996, and filled it out for $430.

Doars, who has been on remand at Westgate Correctional Facility for the past two months for allegedly robbing Devonshire Liquors, was originally charged with 21 cheque offences.

Acting Magistrate Wilhelm Bourne told Doars he was going to send the case to the Supreme Court for sentencing due to the amount of money involved and Doars' previous record.

Upon hearing this Doars became upset and lost control.

He grabbed the notebook of ZBM reporter Vicky Abraham, who was sitting on the nearby Press bench and ripped some sheets out before being restrained by two prison officers.

However, that was not the end of Doars' violent actions.

After being taken out of Magistrates' courtroom three, Doars began fighting three prison officers and two Police officers as they tried to handcuff him.

The officers, with help from a bystander, restrained Doars on the ground. But he continued to struggle, sending female court clerks and attorneys fleeing into the Plea Court session in court room one to get out of the way as the officers tried to take him down the stairs to the back entrance of the court building..

Doars will face trial for the Devonshire Liquors armed robbery next month.
