MP?s assault trial delayed ? again
The trial of Government backbencher Glenn Blakeney for alleged unlawful assault was again delayed yesterday.
Blakeney, of Stovell Bay Road, Pembroke, denied pushing ZBM journalist Gary Moreno at St. George?s Cricket Club on July 28, 2005, during the annual Cup Match holiday.
Blakeney appeared exasperated yesterday when Magistrate Tyrone Chin said the matter would have to be adjourned till February 1 because Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo, who had been hearing the case, was off for the next several days. Mr. Tokunbo was expected to make a ruling yesterday on defence attorney Victoria Pearman?s application for the Crown to call two more witnesses.
Crown prosecutor Graveney Bannister closed his case on December 6, 2006. Allegedly, words were exchanged and Mr. Moreno was pushed while conducting an interview.
The ZBM journalist was not in court yesterday and the trial is expected to resume at 9.30 a.m. February 1.
