Teenage crash victim sent overseas for hospital treatment

A 17-year-old accident victim from St. George?s was rushed off the Island for medical treatment last night.

The teenager sustained neck injuries after he struck a wooden fence on North Shore Road at around 4.50 p.m. on Tuesday. The accident led to road closures.

A spokeswoman from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) said the teen was no longer in Bermuda. It was uncertain which overseas hospital he was sent to.

Police said in a release on Tuesday that the youth was riding an auxiliary cycle near the junction of Jennings Road when he overtook another cycle, lost control and collided with the roadside wooden fence.

?The St. George?s boy sustained a neck injury and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment, where he is currently in critical but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit,? Police said in the release. ?
