QE 2 to visit this weekend

The Vega Leader called on Sunday with 140 vehicles on board and left the same day.

Veteran cruise ship the Queen Elizabeth 2, once known as one of the most glamorous vessels on the ocean, arrives in Bermuda on Saturday for its annual stop at the Island.

The grand old dowager reaches Dockyard from New York on Saturday with more than 500 passengers board and will leave the following day for Newport, Rhode Island.

The QE 2 last visited Bermuda on September 30 last year.

The only other visitor which was out of the ordinary was the car ship Vega Leader, and there were three fuel tankers at the oil docks in St. George's.

The Vega Leader, which had 140 vehicles on board, arrived in Hamilton from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on Sunday and left the same day for the Bahamas.

Last Wednesday saw the Shell tanker Lucy PG, sailing from Curacao, unload cargo oil and gasoline at the St. George's oil docks, and leave last Friday.

Another Shell tanker, the Feisty Gas, carrying cargo oil, reached the oil docks from Jamaica on Friday and set sail for Trinidad the same day.

The Iver Excel arrives at St. George's today from St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands and leaves tomorrow.

The cargo ship Corsar, from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, unloaded 129 dry containers, 41 refrigerated containers, two generators, one maafi and one flatbed in Hamilton on Monday. She returned the following morning.

Two other regular cargo ships, the Somers Isles and the Bermuda Islander, call at Hamilton this week.

The Somers Isles, sailing from Fernandina Beach, Florida, arrived on Monday with 133 containers, nine refrigerated containers, one boat, a forklift truck, and numerous bundles of lumber and steel. She returns today.

The Bermuda Islander, out of Salem, New Jersey, arrives tomorrow with 109 containers and 20 refrigerated containers, and leaves on Friday.

Of the cruise ships, the Nordic Empress reaches Dockyard today from New York with 1,561 passengers and returns out of Hamilton on Friday.

The Pacific Princess, which also came from New York, arrived on the Island yesterday and will return on Friday after visiting all Bermuda's three ports. She had 640 passengers.

The Horizon, from New York, docked at St. George's on Monday with 1,311 passengers, and leaves on Thursday for the Big Apple after visiting Hamilton.

The Zenith, also sailing from New York, arrived at Hamilton on Monday, also with 1,311 passengers. She sailed to the Old Town yesterday and returns to New York today.

The Norwegian Majesty left Boston with 1472 passengers and docked at St. George's yesterday. She returns home on Friday.
