BAMZ applies for ambitious expansion

Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo is expanding to cater to its growing number of cruise ship visitors.

The attraction has applied for Planning permission for a new entrance kiosk and utility building.

Agents Conyers and Associates, in a letter to Planning on behalf of BAMZ, said: "The reason for the new entrance kiosk is to cater for tourists arriving by coach from the cruise ships, being able to cope with large numbers of people at the same time.

"It also serves as a disabled access and an alternative access to the existing one when this is being renovated along with the gift shop.

"The new utility building is an essential part of a long-term master planning scheme and will initially serve as a multi-purpose area ancillary to the new entrance. It will also function as a temporary gift shop whilst the renovations are underway and will serve as a temporary accommodation for renovation to Peacocks Pantry. Eventually the space will be used for staff/utilities.

"The design has been carefully structured to emulate the classical design of the museum building."

The application is currently under review by Planning officers.
