BCB organise kids' workshop

Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) are upping their quest to unearth hidden talent at the grassroots level.

Local cricket's governing body, with the support of the Western Counties Cricket Association and Ironshore Insurance, announced yesterday that they will be holding workshops this summer at Warwick Academy Gymnasium for children aged between five and six .

The workshop will be held every Saturday from April 19 until May 24 with sessions running from 12.15 p.m. to 1.30p.m.

Commenting on the Board's latest efforts to expose the Island's youth to the sport at an early age, BCB cricket development director Arnold Manders explained: "During the session, the young players will be introduced to the basics of cricket with the main aim of having fun.

"Utilising the Kwik Cricket equipment, we will work with the players on learning the basics skills of catching, bowling and batting with the aim of playing a game on the last Saturday.

"The emphasis of Kwik Cricket is on participation and enjoyment. The equipment is made from high quality plastic which is light enough for small hands so it will be perfect for this age group."

BCB president Reggie Pearman said: "I am particularly pleased to see that the young ones will get a chance to experience cricket," he said. "This is an excellent way of introducing them to the game of cricket with the hope that they will want to enter our Eight and Under Youth League in a year or two.
