Meyer pulls out of St. George's
The original Meyer branch in St George's has closed after 126 years in business. Vice president Cheryl Hayward-Chew confirmed that the one remaining staff member in the St George's branch would be leaving the company.
It was, therefore, judged "a "good opportunity to consolidate the business into one location in Hamilton".
Mrs Hayward-Chew added that the company retained a commitment to St George's and did not rule out the possibility of re-opening the branch: "We're a St George's company - our priority is still to serve the St George's community".
Earlier this month, Meyer-Franklin Travel contacted all the St George's customers on their mailing list to notify them of the closure and to provide them with new direct telephone numbers for agents. St George's customers may now deal directly with travel specialists Shaun Hassell, Troy Pitcher and Toni Lee-Curtis by telephone and they will still be able to collect their tickets from a pick-up facility in St George's.
At present there are no plans to sell or lease the premises which is owned by the Meyer-Franklin Group.
