Drink-driver admits: ‘I had no right getting on that bike’

A Southampton man received a year’s ban from the roads for driving while three times over the legal alcohol limit.Anthony Joinville, 51, of Rose Hill Road, admitted the offence in Magistrates’ Court.“I had no right getting on that bike,” he said.At 9.36pm on February 27, police on duty at Somerset Road, Sandys, began following a motorcycle after it nearly struck the sidewalk.Joinville was stopped near the junction of Pompano Beach Road, where he admitted to drinking and was arrested. A breath test at Somerset Police Station showed 247 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Joinville $1,000 and disqualified him from driving for 12 months.
