Aldrich says goodbye to freight business

Change of pace: Peter Aldrich

It's what we all dream about: taking a break from the rat race in our mid-30s, selling up the business and setting off on our travels.

Peter Aldrich, of Fast Forward Freight, has decided it's time to take his nose off the grindstone and announced yesterday that he has sold his share in the company he founded to his partners, Tim Southern and Luis Martins.

Mr. Aldrich started Fast Forward Freight 11 years ago and the company has grown steadily. It's now the second largest freight forwarder on the Island with approximately 20 employees.

Mr. Aldrich says he has enjoyed this period of his life, but now it's "time to step aside and give Tim and Luis the opportunity that they deserve."

Pressed on his reasons for giving up his company, Mr. Aldrich confirmed that he has "absolutely no responsibilities" so unlike most of us with mortgage payments and school fees to worry about, he's free to take a break.

"I plan on doing some travelling and when I return perhaps I'll do some consulting."

He's leaving the business in capable hands; Mr. Southern and Mr. Martins have worked with him at Fast Forward Freight for six and three years, respectively.

The new owners say that they are extremely excited about this opportunity and aim to carry on the company's track record of quality and efficient service. "The transition will be smooth and seamless." says Mr. Southern. He confirms that it's not a case of the partners falling out and that they wish Mr. Aldrich well, adding "It's what we'd all like to do isn't it."

So for the time being, it's goodbye to Customs clearance applications, logistics and shipping manifests." It will be nice not have an agenda." says Mr. Aldrich summing up: "Life's too short not to take these opportunities."
