Eagles ease into Shield final
Somerset Eagles 6 Paget 0
Somerset Eagles wasted little time disposing of Paget for the second time in as many days last night, easing their way through to the Shield Competition final where they will meet their First Division promotion partners Boulevard.
Eagles led 4-0 at the half courtesy of goals by Darin Dowling and Rodre Wilson, and two quick strikes from Sean Dill. Lamaul Crofton (penalty) and Wilson applied the finishing touches to see off their opponents midway through the second half.
"We are looking forward to the final against Boulevard because we have an issue to settle," said Eagles coach Albert Dowling.
"The enthusiasm is back and I know we are capable of retaining our title."
Clearly a cut above their opponents, Eagles went ahead in the 12th minute through Dowling and from therein the only question that remained was just how many the west enders would score.
Thanks to Wilson, the score finished at six as the lively forward missed countless chances.
Dill made it 2-0 in the 14th minute before Wilson found the target in the 20th. Dill notched his second and the team's fourth midway through the half.
Crofton converted a 58th minute penalty before Wilson capped off another fine outing for the west enders in the 72nd minute.
Eagles pulled out all the stops to come from behind to edge St .David's 3-2 in last year's final.
