Cougars quash Brown quit rumours

Devonshire Cougars Dennis Brown

Devonshire Recreation Club (DRC) President Nadine Browne - Evans has rubbished claims that head coach Dennis Brown threatened to resign earlier this month. It is alleged the outspoken coach threatened to sever ties with the Big Cats after club management failed to pay him for his services for the 2012-13 season. It is further alleged that the former Somerset Trojans and Bermuda defender lashed out at his club's management for failure to stage their own post season prize ceremony.Only last week Brown lambasted Bermuda Football Association (BFA) for not holding a prize ceremony for the past domestic season in which he guided the Big Cats to a maiden triple crown (Premier Championship, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy) in his second season at the helm. When approached by The Royal Gazette, Brown would neither confirm or deny he threatened to resign while Devonshire President Evans dismissed claims that the former was owed monies from the previous season and insisted that no bad blood exists between both parties.“The Devonshire Recreation Club meets its obligations to Coach Brown, the relationship is intact,” she said. “The issues that Devonshire Recreation Club is dealing with are external and I am disheartened that anyone would attempt to stir internal conflict.“The Devonshire Recreation Club members, family, friends and fans share the dedication and determination of our players and look forward to a great season!”Meanwhile, coach Brown's charges are off to a flying start this term.Last month saw Cougars capture Charity Cup glory after prevailing against Brown's former team Trojans in a high scoring affair at Goose Gosling Field. The Big Cats are also through to the semi- finals of the 2013-14 Dudley Eve competition after finishing second in Group A behind group winners Dandy Town.Cougars will face North Village Rams in the last four of the competition at Somerset Cricket Club on October 13 while Hornets and PHC Zebras will meet in the remaining semi- final at the same venue.Brown's charges will open their league title defence when they travel to Goose Gosling Field tomorrow night to face hosts Flanagans Onions.
