Nearly all Emergency staff have trauma management training
More than 90 percent of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department have completed trauma management training.
They are all either certified in the Trauma Nurse Care Course or Emergency Nursing Paediatric Course, after instructors from Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Medical Centre and Brockton Hospital in Massachusetts visited the Island.
Brad Kleinig, a clinical educator at KEMH, said: "It is quite an achievement for so many of our nursing staff to be certified in trauma management. This has a very positive impact on our ability to provide patients with the highest standard of care in emergency situations."
Maureen Curtis-Cooper, one of four instructors who taught the course, said: "The Emergency Nurses Association in the USA commends hospitals that achieve such a high percentage of staff trained in trauma management.
"This is a very prestigious accomplishment and reflects BHB's commitment to excellence and to offering patients the very best in trauma care."
