Saltus academy attracts Island’s best

Leadership Development trainees from left to right: Tony James of Inspiring Leaders, Shanna-Lee Kerr (BHS), Mark Thorpe (Warwick Academy), Keisha Douglas (Berkeley Institute), Rachel Sully (Warwick Academy), Tiannia Symonds (Berkeley Institute), Nadia Robinson (Berkeley Institute), Liz Dowdell (Saltus), Christianna Hiles (Saltus) and Nicole Carter (Saltus)

Thirteen educational leaders from several Bermuda schools have embarked in the Saltus Teachers’ Academy.

Nine participants from Berkeley Institute, Warwick Academy, Bermuda High School and Saltus started their National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership, while a further four started their National Professional Qualification for Middle Leadership.

A two-day workshop in Bermuda was led by Tony James of Inspiring Leaders, a UK provider of leadership development for teachers. He will be working further with the group both online and through two more workshops on the Island over the next 12 to 18 months.

The programmes lead to an internationally recognised qualification accredited by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

Saltus Head of School Claire Charlemagne said: “We see this as a truly positive development for schools in Bermuda. Sharing practice between our schools will assist our educators to develop as professionals and raise standards for all of our students.”

Spaces are available to embark upon a Master’s in Education/Educational Leadership with Nottingham Trent University, through the Saltus Teachers’ Academy. Enrolment is open for a January 2015 start. For more information, visit www.saltus.bm or email Dr Sheine Peart, the course leader, at sheine.peart@ntu.ac.uk.
