Jobseekers site ‘a success’

Stafford Lowe

A “non-traditional” employment website has reported connecting jobseekers with $20,000 worth of work since its launch in April.

The free site, jobber.bm, has seen more than 700 people and 150 jobs posted — helping to create “a sustainable alternative job market and help pull the community together”, according to website founder Stafford Lowe.

Work offers get posted, and “jobbers” are allowed to make a single bid saying why they should be chosen, with instant e-mail alerts keeping parties informed.

“The job postings have been very diverse, from house cleaners to gardening work, handy-work around the home, to staffing events and even doing graphic design.,” Mr Lowe said.

“While it’s mostly been individuals posting jobs, some local businesses have jumped on board with jobs like unloading containers and assembling ping pong tables.”

He thanked Bermuda CableVision for allowing the site to advertise for free on Channel 100, as well as purchasing advertising on the site.

Noting that “every job counts in today’s economy”, CableVision CEO Terry Roberson added: ““We are excited to support jobber.bm to help Bermudians find work through non-traditional methods.

“Jobber.bm is a great site where anyone who either has work to be done or needs temporary work should visit.”

The site is anonymous for those who post job offers, and the post expires if no bids are satisfactory.
