Ex-pilot MacIntyre named new head of Civil Aviation

Ian MacIntyre began work on November 1 as the Director of Civil Aviation after a career in military and civil aviation and computer sales.

Mr. MacIntyre will be responsible for registration of aircraft and flight crew, economic regulation of the Island's air-service agreements, and airline fares.

The director also issues charter permits and all aspects of safety including safety at the Bermuda International Airport, and supervises a small staff of technical officers.

He will work directly with the Minister of Transport and the Permanent Secretary.

A Royal Air Force pilot from 1962 to 1970, he flew in the UK and Middle East and gained experience in administration, air traffic control, and air operations.

Mr. MacIntyre is a former operations officer in the department, having worked there between 1970 and 1972.

For nine years he flew for JOC/Transworld Oil Company while scheduling and co-ordinating the logistics of the company's flights. He registered JOC/Transworld's aircraft fleet with the Bermuda Civil Aviation Office.

Later he flew with Bermuda Executive Airways, but joined Bermuda Computer Services in 1983 as retail manager to introduce the then new IBM PC to the Island.

After six months, Mr. MacIntyre became manager, and ran the company for 16 years, until this year.
