Top teens honoured

Students were nominated for eight different categories by their schools or churches and went through an interview process on which the were graded.

during the Teen Service Awards.

Students were nominated for eight different categories by their schools or churches and went through an interview process on which the were graded.

The points were totalled and a male and female winner in each category was announced at the Teen Service Awards banquet last week.

The categories were Most Progress, Incentive, Community Service, Spirituality, Scholastic, Leadership. Sports and Preforming Arts.

Also there were several recognition awards given out to student who had high scores, but in the end were beaten out by one point.

The winners of the Spirituality award were Bermuda College student Alandra Swan and Bermuda Institute student Michael Faison.

Alandra, nominated by her church, the New Testament Church of God, Miracle Temple, was described "as having the potential to be a great spiritual leader simply because she is a great spiritual follower''.

Michael, nominated by his school, was described as "an energetic leader''.

The Community Service awards went to two Bermuda Institute students, Jevon Williams and Janice Mullings.

Janice, also nominated by her church, is described as having a "diligent and humble demeanour''.

Jevon is described by the staff of his school as a "respectful, quiet, unassuming committed Christian gentleman''.

The victors in the Leadership category were Berkeley Institute student Mieah DeFontes and Saltus Grammar School student Spencer Conway.

This is the first year the Berkeley has won the leadership award and they said that Mieah is an unquestionable leader.

Saltus staff said that Spencer had demonstrated a great deal of leadership in the many activities he is involved in in and out of school.

The other winners were as follows: Most Progress: Takira Hollinsid and Mark Crofton.

Incentive: Rodericka Pitcher and Lyle Butterfield, with special recognition going to Jason Thomas.

Performing Arts: Jessica Firth and Dainavon Tuzo.

Scholastic: Kalilah Robinson and Jay Butler with special recognition going to Nadir Wade.

Sports: Talia Iris and Oliver Pitcher with special recognition going to Andrew Shaw.

All the students are the embodiment of hard work and endurance in everything they do.

Teen Services would like to once again congratulate all of their winners.
