Athletes aim to qualify for Carifta Games
Some of Bermuda's top young athletes will be pushing to reach the qualifying standard for the Carifta Games at a track and field meet this weekend.
Donna Watson, from the Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA), is hoping a handful of athletes will be able to join the seven who have already booked their tickets to the Games, which will be held in St. Kitts in March. Kyla Bolden, Shuntae Hendrickson, Taylor Ashley-Bean, Ashley Berry, Megan Berry, Ryan Furbert and Matthew Spring will all be searching for podium places in the Caribbean event.
"We're very confident that quite a few more athletes will qualify for Carifta," said former Bermuda track star Watson. "There are a number who have the capabilities to do so and they have plenty of time to reach the standard.
"The likes of Darico Clarke, Alexis Bean, Deanna Lightbourne and Tre Houston all have a good chance of reaching the qualifying standard in their various events at this Saturday's meet."
Bermuda plan to take a bigger team to St. Kitts than the one they sent to Turks and Caicos last year, with the qualifying window remaining open until March. The Carifta Games run from March 21 to 25.
The BTFA meet starts at 1 p.m at the National Sports Centre.
