Menuhin students to showcase their talents
Young students of the Menuhin Foundation's free primary and middle schools music programmes, and its various student orchestras, will be showcasing their talents in two concerts taking place tomorrow in the auditorium of the Bermuda High School for Girls in Pembroke.
The first, at 2.30 p.m. will feature 150 children from public and private primary schools, Clearwater Middle School and Sandys Secondary Middle School. They will present a programme of contemporary music culminating in an inspiring finale of approximately 150 students playing together for the first time.
The second, at 5 p.m., is an orchestral concert featuring the First Orchestra (beginners), the Junior Orchestra (intermediate), and the Youth Orchestra (seniors) in a programme of classical and contemporary music. The Youth Orchestra's presentation will include a solo by Menuhin Foundation Scholarship winner Cheresa Lemaire, and the concert will end with a grand finale combining students from all three orchestras.
Admission to both concerts is $10 for adults, and $5 for children.
The Menuhin Foundation was founded in 1975 at the inspiration of the late virtuoso violinist Lord Menuhin. It is a registered charity, and providing free strings lessons to children at the Island's primary and middle schools is part of its mission. Tomorrow's concerts are annual events marking the culmination of a year's work.
