St. George's man had cannabis
A 20-year-old Cut Road, St. George's man admitted to possession of 14.96 grams of cannabis yesterday in Magistrates' Court.
The court heard from Crown counsel Robert Welling that on November 15 in Sandys Parish, Police stopped a van, which had a strong smell coming from it.
Police noticed the passenger of the van, Gervel Seymore, attempt to hide something under the front seat.
When they retrieved the object they found it was a homemade paper cigarette containing plan-like substance.
Seymore was arrested and taken to Somerset and the substance was analysed and found to be cannabis.
"I apologise for wasting everyone's time and this is a wake up call to get my life together," Seymore told Police.
He told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo in court: "This has been a learning experience and I now know not to go down that path again."
Mr. Tokunbo ordered a social inquiry report which will be reviewed before sentencing on May 29.
Lawyer suspended by Bar Council
A lawyer has been suspended from practice for two years after being found guilty of improper conduct by his professional body.
According to an official notice, Carlsen Philip failed to comply with a direction from the Bermuda Bar Council dated March 19, 2004, requiring him to produce accounts and other documentation relating to his trust accounts for the period, covering the sale of certain property.
The charge was heard and determined by a disciplinary tribunal appointed under the Bermuda Bar Act.
He was found guilty in June 2005 and suspended from practice for two years.
An appeal to the Court of Appeal was dismissed on March 14.
