Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships, it was the girls' turn to shine on Wednesday.

Ashley Aitken, making her second appearance in the finals of the meet in St.

Lucia, dropped over a second from her time in the preliminaries to win a silver medal in the girls 100-metre breaststroke in one minute, 21.07.

The medal was Bermuda's fifth in just three days and came on the heels of two golds by Stephen Fahy and a silver and bronze by Matthew Hammond. And last night there was a chance of four other medals on a day in which the team had already established two more national records.

In addition to Aitken's silver, Bermuda on Wednesday grabbed two fourth-place finishes -- by Grahmam Smith in the 200m breast, and Stephen Troake in the 100m free -- and fifths by Kiera Aitken and Tamika Williams.

Williams, one of seven Island swimmers to appear in Wednesday night's finals, made a splash with her time of 1:02.30 in the 100m freesytle. She finished behind a pair of Olympians but bettered the national record set by Alex Dowling in 1990.

Earlier in the day, Jessica Sousa shattered her second national and age group record of the meet, racing to a 1:11.3 in the 100m backstroke. She demolished the old record of 1:13.99 set by Tiffany Gosling in 1991.

On Tuesday, Fahy picked up his second gold in as many nights, when he chopped a whopping 15 seconds off Ronald Cowen's national record in the 400m individual medley, set two years ago in Puerto Rico, and set a meet record in the process.

He edged Tjin A Tam of Surinam and George Gleason of the US Virgin Islands by 2/10s of a second for the gold.

Hammond was third in the 200m freestyle with a time of 2:01.22.

National coach Gareth Davies said he was extremeley pleased with the medal performances, particularly since Hammond and Fahy are racing untapered and unshaved.
