Minors v Mouchette is too tough to call

Bermuda Track and Field Association president Donna Watson takes a look at her ones to watch in Friday night’s KPMG Front Street Mile.Primary School Girls This is a very wide open division. I am going to put my neck out and say that Ashley Irby will win this as she is going in with the fastest time from the trials but Makaela Outerbridge will give her some competition.Primary School Boys This is going to be a good race as there is a full field of 20 male athletes. Sajan Harvey has had a good cross-country season and with him going in with the fastest trial time I think he will win the Primary Boys.Middle School Girls This is going to be a tight race at the front with Zakiyyah Showers, Quinnae Outerbridge and Quasshie Douglas with all three vying for positions on the Carifta Team. Zakiyyah has had a great cross-country season winning the National Cross-Country Championships and going in with the fastest trial time. I am going to give this one to Zakiyyah.Middle School Boys This will be a fun race to watch as these middle school boys especially David Darrell and Michaiah Robinson who have been at it for the entire cross-country season. Again I’m going to give the edge to David Darrell for this one.High School Girls This is going to be a hot race as we have two athletes who are in tremendous shape right now with their preparations towards Carifta going well. Kyrah Scraders the winner of the middle school division last year has stepped up to the High School Girls division this year. She is a Carifta medallist from last year. Shuntae Hendrickson is having a great season so far with her preparation but she moves up to the Under-20 in Carifta this year. This one I will leave for the night because they are both going to be going for the win. It is going to come down to who wants it the most.High School Boys We have added a new twist to this race with Dage Minors coming home to compete. If Dage was not going to be there I would say that Juma Mouchette had the race wrapped up.Both athletes are in good shape, Dage has been competing overseas as he is in High school in the US and been having some good races. Again I can’t pick a winner here as they have not competed together yet this season and again it will come down to who wants it the most because they are both in great shape.Open Women This will be a fun race to watch as all of the top four women beside Ashley Estwanik will be competing in this race. When it comes to speed I’m going to have to say that Tamika Williams should take this race. She is in tip top shape and with her 800m background and I have seen the training that she is putting in I am going to give it to her. Jennifer Alen might surprise us as she also has a track background but Tamika beat her convincingly in the trials so I give her the edge.Open Men With Chayce Smith competing in the Elite Mile I think Gary Raynor will retain his title.Gary had a fantastic year last year and had a great 1500m at the Island Games last year. I have seen Gary at the track putting in the speed work so I think it is going to be tough for anyone to beat him this year
